Our beautiful neighborhood is located right on the edge of Harriman State Park. At more than 47,000 acres, Harriman is New York State's second largest state park (not including Adirondack Park and Catskills Park, which are managed by the DEC). Only Allegany Park at 65,000 acres is larger.
Due to our proximity to this forever wild land, residents of PGL are treated to sightings and interactions with wildlife that most other residents of Rockland County will never experience. The majority of the people who move to PGL do so knowing this and wanting this. There are some people who move to PGL who are unaware that they might encounter some not-so-typical suburban wildlife just about a half hour from New York City. Often these people seek information about the flora and fauna of the area. This page will serve to help those neighbors learn about what they may see right in their own backyards. The photo gallery (coming soon) showcases pictures taken right here in PGL.
